STATE OF MARYLAND REQUIREMENTS TO PURCHASE A HAND GUN

A person may not purchase, rent or receive a hand gun unless they possess a valid “HANDGUN QUALIFICATION LICENSE”

Basically , the new law requires a new gun owner wishing to purchase a hand gun or regulated firearm to apply for the (HQL) . This is done on line thru the Maryland State Police, be fingerprinted with picture and  the MSP  will do the background check. Also required is a 4 hour training class on firearm safety and use by a certified instructor.

THERE ARE EXEMPTIONS 

If you are active or retired military  with DD214, and in good standing,you are exempt from the HQL.

If you are active or retired law enforcement, in good standing you are exempt from the HQL.

NOTE;      If you have purchased a handgun, or regulated firearm in the past you are not required to take the 4 hr training class.
